overview

SoundBlocker Quilt is a superior sound absorber that offers better sound proofing than normal mineral wool and is the preferred choice for installation between the joists when soundproofing a floor wall or ceiling. This sound insulation will also give enhanced results if used as the acoustic infill when soundproofing stud partitions.

This sound blocking quilt is a superior laminate offering a combination of sound absorption and sound blocking qualities due to its unique 2kg/m² acoustic membrane laminated in the middle. Ideal to soundproof walls, floors and ceilings. Unlike normal sound absorbing mineral wool, due to the sound blocking membrane sandwiched within the product, it will help to block noise as well as absorb it. Using this quilt will enhance the soundproofing of any structure where it may be used instead of normal mineral wool.

testimonial

"We could not afford to lose 75 mm using mineral wool on our wall. The SoundBlockerQuilt was the product for us as it only took up 30mm and performs far better."

Gloria Turner – Blackpool

Our SoundBlocker Quilt consists of a laminate of 25mm sound absorbing fibreglass, 2Kg acoustic membrane and another layer of 25mm sound absorbing fibreglass.

It performs approx 4 times better than our normal Acoustic Mineral Wool due to the barrier layer sandwiched in the middle which blocks airborne noise as efficiently as lead.

The Quilt exceeds the new Part E Resistance to the Passage of Sound when used alongside other soundproofing materials making it an attractive product soundproofing walls, floors and ceilings.

When used as a wall sound proofing material, Acoustic Quilt can uprate a typical 12.5mm stud wall by up to 16dB!

SoundBlocker Quilt can also improve the sound insulation of a suspended timber floor by up to 13dB! as featured on the Channel 4 show "Grand Designs" in 2007.

FIXING:

SoundBlocker Quilt is installed in a similar way to standard glass fibre rolls.
When installing between floor joists its best to unroll the quilt between the joists so that it also laps up the sides of the joists. Then fix it with wooden battening and screw the battening into the sides of the joists. This will compress the Acoustic quilt tight against the joists for the very best performance. If installing within a stud frame do the same fixing method to the header plate and the sides of the studs. Alternatively, the quilt can be stapled using a normal upholstery type stapler and 14mm staples

(This product is ideal for providing a soundproofing layer above lightweight suspended ceiling grids.)

Please Note: this product is made with 25mm fibreglass either side of the membrane but due to being shipped in roll form will come compressed overall to around 25mm.
