Sound Service (Oxford) Ltd Supports Noise Action Week
Noise Action Week is an annual initiative coordinated by Environmental Protection UK (formerly NSCA), that aims to raise awareness of the problems caused by neighbour noise and the solutions available to tackle it. It provides an opportunity for local authorities, housing providers, mediation services and all those involved in neighbour noise management to raise awareness of services available and promote practical solutions.
Noise Action Week 2009 (18 - 22 May) provides the perfect opportunity to:
Promote practical solutions to everyday noise problems
Promote communication and consideration between neighbours
Encourage local authorities and mediation services to inform the public of services available
Educate and inform noise makers and noise sufferers about noise reduction
Encourage everyone to take a quiet moment to consider the noises they make and the noise that affects them - and what can be done to reduce the impact

About Noise Action Week - 2008
Noise Action Week (NAW) gives everyone involved in managing noise problems the opportunity to focus public and media attention on the difficulties excessive noise can cause for us all - at home, at work, at study and at leisure. Last year hundreds of organisations across the UK co-ordinated activity at local level and many local authorities, housing and other community services worked in partnership to promote initiatives across the country.
This year Noise Action Week is set to highlight street sounds as we are working in partnership with Walk to School, who are encouraging local travel co-ordinators to get kids out on the street as "Sound Detectives" during the week, sussing out sounds on their way to school. Last year 2 million children took part in Walk to School - so this is a great opportunity to engage local travel plan co-ordinators and encourage them to work in partnership with noise management and health promotion professionals in raising awareness of noise.
For larger noisy cities, noise action plans (required by the Environmental Noise Directive) are due to be drawn up in consultation with the public (by July 2008!), to help quieten our streets - so our partnership with Walk to School (www.walktoschool.org.uk) is a great opportunity to involve pupils and parents. Regulations are also now in force to help local authorities tackle night time noise from licensed premises in England and Wales, so this year's Noise Action Week provides plenty of opportunities for raising awareness of noise problems.

To support NAW, Environmental Protection UK will be repeating our MORI survey gauging attitudes to noise, which last year found around a million people moved because of noisy neighbours.
